Dear SANDERSON and STIRLING families and extended families,
Please accept my most sincere condolences on the passing of Christine, your mother, grand-mother, and sister. She will no doubt leave a deep void in your lives, but you will always have the wonderful memories of her. As a now 77-year-old my memories of your father go back to some the earliest memories I have. My memories of your mother go back to the early 1950s when Christine joined Leonard as our across-the-road neighbours. My brother Bill and I were guests at Christine and Leonard's wedding, a big outing for the two of us as young early-teen farm boys. As a young teenage farm boy I remained a neighbour until I left Howick Township and Gorrie in the fall of 1959. Nonetheless, I always tried to connect with Leonard and Christine, and then Christine after Leonard passed away, whenever I visited Gorrie ever since.
I regret it will not be possible to attend Christine's service, but my thoughts will be will all of you.
Most Sincerely,
Gerry AUSTIN

There are so many memories of this great lady. She cared for every student and member of her working community. Christine was always there to help the new struggling teachers or problem solve any situation. We enjoyed being part of the Minto staff in the beginning years. So much work, and so many good times too!
She loved her family and I can only imagine the many great memories you have to share and keep forever.

I was so sorry to learn of the loss of your beloved Mom and Grandma. Thank you Mary for thinking to call me. We just got home this afternoon from a holiday in Nova Scotia and I doubt we will make it up to Wingham tomorrow morning for her service. However; my heart will be with you all.
I have such wonderful memories of our time teaching together. She was a good friend who enjoyed a good laugh and a good joke. She was a caring teacher who loved her students and encouraged creativity in all of them. She was an excellent colleague and together we worked on many extra curricular activities. She will long be remembered by both the kids she taught and the teachers with whom she taught.
Please know that Jim and I will be remembering you all tomorrow as you say your good-byes to a precious Mom who lived victoriously in spite of set backs that might have daunted many others.
With deepest sympathy and our prayers. Lynne and Jim Bullock

Our sincere condolences on the passing of your mother. Knowing that I grew up in Gorrie, a colleague at my school asked me today if I knew Christine. She attended school in Harriston and remembered your mom as one of her favourite teachers who often would greet the children at her classroom door, pot of tea in hand! While I never had the pleasure of having your mom as a teacher at school, I do remember a few 4H clubs with our mothers as leaders and the fun we had at your house! Lovely memories...
With our sympathy,

My condolences to the family. Mrs. Sanderson was one of the best teachers I had. She always pushed me to do my best as a 6th grader and then took me under her wing when I was looking to become a teacher myself. She would not accept mediocre in her classroom or in her students and her influence was one of the reasons that I went into the teaching field myself. My prayers are with the family.

My sincere sympathy to your family on the passing of your mother, grandmother & sister.
"Mrs. Sanderson" was my Grade 6 teacher (1971-72) at Minto-Clifford. She was my most favourite teacher and I will never forget her. She was so kind, energetic and made all her students feel special. I was a shy child and she encouraged me, but she also appreciated my quietness. I still have a report card with her lovely handwriting where she wrote, "In a world of noise it is refreshing to meet a quiet person like Jane". I wish I would have met her again as an adult..
May happy memories, and knowing the positive impact she had on so many, bring you peace and comfort.

Dear Family of Christine
You will not likely know who I am but I extend my sincere sympathy to her wonderful family.
My mother was Margaret Campbell from Wallaceburg and a cousin of Leonard and Christine. My grandmother was Nellie Sanderson, Leonard's aunt. Like Christine, she was an amazing teacher who opened a one room public school in Huron county when she was 19. When I was 12, I went with her to Huron county for her school reunion. She was 75 at the time..
Leonard used to come to our farm for visits and tell lots of stories of farm life in your county. I remember being impressed with how big his hands were!
Christine and I exchanged Christmas cards for over 40 years and she always had a detailed update on all the five children
She was so proud of all of you and her farm roots. She was writing the family history and I believe was close to finished.
I would love to know if her manuscript for all or part of the history could be shared.
My rural roots really matter to me and to my sister Beverly.I spent my career as a teacher and high school principal so education mattered to me too.
I am so sorry I cannot attend the funeral.I will be in Ottawa to celebrate my 50th year since graduation from University of Toronto. You can guess that I might be 72 and you would be right.
Our mutual cousin George Gregg told me about Christine's passing. We both attend Metropolitan Church in downtown Toronto.
She was a wonderful lady, proud mom and a terrific letter writer. I send my regards to all the children, you were lucky to have your wonderful parents but we can't keep them forever.God bless your family as you adjust to this loss.
Vera Taylor ( I was named after Vera Gregg, George's mother)

Me again!
I have been wandering around all weekend filled with thoughts of Christine. I want to share some with you:
It was people who were important to Christine, not things.
I remember her telling me that when she was busy teaching, throughout the year, if company was coming she would just 'stuff' things in drawers and closets/cupboards - then she would spend the summer unpacking them. She said she found lots of things she thought she had lost!
She told me that one time when Mary was teaching she called her to see if she could come quickly to help assist because she was taking her class skating and she was short of help. Christine quickly ran upstairs and put on her jeans and away she went. A while after she got there a kid came up to her and said that something was 'trailing' out of her pant leg! It was yesterday's underwear that were still in the pants from the day before!!LOL
We were recently at a funeral for a Grama we know and her grandson spoke. He said that to him 'Grama was precious but she was also 'real'. I think Christine was 'real'!
That's all for now folks! See ya' Thursday!
Beth

To all the Sanderson Family,
Wonderful memories of your family and especially Christine when my husband, Rev. Edward Attwell and I were in the Anglican rectory in Gorrie in the late 1950's. We had wonderful times at the farm with our three children, who were all born during our time there. It was good seeing Christine in Listowel a couple of years ago. We were able catch up and talk about the years in Gorrie. Sincere condolences to all, God Bless,
