To the Thornton Family.... So sorry to learn about your mother's passing. Not only was she a great teacher (one of my favourites at WPS) but a kind, thoughtful person.

To the family of Mrs Dorothy Thornton, I have such positive memories of Dorothy as my grade six teacher in 1962/63. She was very skilled at her trade. More importantly, she was always such a wonderful person. Will always remember her as one of my favourite teachers.

So sorry to hear about your lovely mother. She was one of my favourite teachers at WPS, as I'm sure you've heard from many of her students. Sandy Orien has the same fond memory as I of your mother reading to us every afternoon. I have warm memories of the Enid Blyton books with the cliffhanger at the end of every chapter and waiting until the next day to hear what happened. She inspired my love of reading which is still strong to this day. I also remember being in her class when Mr. Beattie announced the assassination of John Kennedy over the PA system. So vivid in my mind. We were only in Grade 5 but your Mom talked to us about it after to help us understand. She was a wonderful person. Sorry you have to lose her so close to Mother's Day, but Cindy, do you remember that you and I each won a prize for writing an essay for the Advance Times about having the best mother? I still have the news clipping with a picture of you and me with our Moms!

To the family of Mrs. Thornton, so sorry for your loss, my prayers and thoughts to you all at this time.
Mrs. Thornton was my teacher for 7 years at SS No. 2 Turnberry, and all were memorable years. It was a joy to get up and walk to school and see our teacher each day. She was truly a wonderful teacher. So to Julie, Jeff, Jill and Cindy keep all those memories you have as they can never be taken away. You would remember me by my maiden name (Grant).

Mrs. Thornton was one of my teachers at WPS. She was a great teacher, and I always looked forward to the Friday spelling tests, as I usually done well and she always put a comment on my paper. Funny the things you remember after a lot of years have passed. She was kind and caring for her students. R.I.P Mrs. Thornton, you were one of the good ones. My condolences to all the family and friends.

Dear Thornton Family,
My deepest sympathy on the passing of Mrs. Thornton.
Mrs. Thornton was the inspiration to many to "open a book" and read for "fun". After lunch she wisely read us a chapter and then left us all in suspense begging for even the start of the next page. "Tomorrow, tomorrow, we will see what happens, tomorrow." So there we all were waiting for the morning lessons to pass, then lunch, and then the next chapter began. Wonderful memories of my grade 6 class, just in the north doors on the left at WPS :)
