Obituary of Doreen Laroche
At Wingham & District Hospital on Saturday, August 29, 2015, Mrs. Doreen Laroche of Wingham, formerly of Ottawa, age 83 years. Dear wife of the late Jack Thompson. Cherished sister of Pat (Bailey) Beer of Wingham, Carmen Brown, Dale Osmond, Sheila Sherman and Wayne Brown. Lovingly remembered by several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents Archie and Dora (Clapp) Brown and her brothers Clarence and Rueben Brown. Doreen was always a woman ahead of her time. She served in the Royal Canadian Air Force as a fighter control operator ("scope dope"), she was a leading aircraft woman from November 1952 to June 1956. She served in Vancouver as well as the "Central Flying School Headquarters," as an instructor. Doreen settled down in Ottawa after leaving the RCAF. She began working at CNCP Telecommunications as a teletype operator. She took an early retirement in September 1988. Doreen will be lovingly remembered for her lavish and delicious dinner parties. No one loved a party more than Doreen. She encouraged service to her country and her niece Pamela Bailey followed her footsteps and served in the Canadian forces as well. She helped many of her nieces and nephews to receive their post secondary education as well as giving generously to all her family. Doreen was also a world traveler and was able to see many different places. Private arrangements entrusted to McBurney Funeral Home, Wingham, Ontario. Final resting place, Wingham Cemetery. ©
