Obituary of Matt Gurnick
At London Health Sciences Centre on Wednesday, January 8th, 2025, Matthew Gurnick of Wingham passed away at the age of 34 after a brief battle with cancer.
Matt will be deeply missed by his wife Ashley and their daughter Hailey, his father Tim, brothers David & Alyssa Gurnick and Nathan Gurnick, parents-in-law Theo & Diana Vander Gaast, brothers-in-law Ryan & Amanda VanderGaast and Mark VanderGaast & Dien Ploeg, his nieces and nephews; Arya, Ayden, Andrew, Mallory, Logan and Olivia, and his aunts and uncles; Andrea Feeley (Eric), Mike Gurnick (Nola), Bob Gurnick, Sharon Toth (Ken) and Monique Finora.
Waiting for him with open arms in Heaven is his mother Anita and brother Ed.
Matt’s greatest joy and proudest role was being a dad to his daughter Hailey. She was the centre of his world, his inspiration and his greatest source of happiness. He was also known for his love of basketball, a game he played with great enthusiasm and skill. Whether shooting hoops or watching from the sidelines, basketball brought him immense joy and connection. Matt’s larger than life personality and infectious laugh made every room brighter.
A Celebration of Matt’s life will be held at the Riverside Apartments Common Room (187 Victoria St. W. WIngham) on Saturday, January 25th, from 1:00-4:00 p.m.
Interment will take place at Pleasantview Memorial Gardens, Fonthill in the spring.
In lieu of flowers, consider a memorial donation to the Canadian Cancer Society or Canadian Mental Health Association where funds will be directed towards Men’s Mental Health in memory of Matt.
