Obituary of Frances Broome Harrington

Frances (Wilson) Broome Harrington of Victoria, BC and formerly of Wingham passed away on Tuesday, September 10, 2024, at the age of 99 years.

Wife of the late James Broome and the late Stan Harrington.

Mother of Bob & Joyce Broome of Milverton, and John & Betty-Ann Broome of Victoria, BC.

Grandmother of Michael Broome of Milverton, Jay Broome of Kearney, Deb & Scott Rinn of St. Marys, Ken Broome of Elmira, Laurie & Peter Sachs of St. Thomas, and Ian & Jen Broome, and Darren Broome, all of Victoria, BC.

Also survived by 13 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren.

Predeceased by her son Keith Broome and his wife Linda.

Frances was born on May 12, 1925 in Hull, England and grew up in Norwich, Norfolk, England.  On January 26, 1946 she became the bride of Pvt. James Broome of Wingham, Ontario.  She sailed to Canada, arriving at Pier 21 in Halifax in September 1946.  The couple resided in the Wingham area, raising 3 sons, until James passed in 1990.  In 1997 Frances married Stan Harrington and after his passing in 2001 she moved to Victoria, BC.

Frances enjoyed knitting and needle work, but mostly family.  She will be forever remembered for her kind and giving personality, her wonderful smile and her dedication to family and friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Interment will take place at Wingham Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated, and may be made through McBurney Funeral Home, Wingham.
