Obituary of Dorene Finlay

On Friday October 6th, 2023, Dorene passed away peacefully in the Wingham Hospital at the age of 95 with family by her side.

Beloved Mother of daughter Brenda Finlay (Bernie Haines) and son Bevin Finlay (Carol Wells); adored Grandmother to Laura Finlay.

She was the daughter of Roy Irwin and Viola Jamieson. Predeceased by her siblings Ruth Hastings and Orland Irwin and survived by siblings Juanita Hopper, Louise Conley and sister-in-law Myrtle Irwin.

Dorene was well known in the Belmore community and in the early 1970’s she and her husband Harold developed and started Pine Echo Camp. She retired from managing the camp in 1989. Dorene also participated for many years with the Belmore Maple Syrup Festival and other community events. She was a big Elvis fan, showcasing a beautiful display of Elvis Collector Plates and all the King’s movies and music. Dorene was never one to turn down sweets and she baked some of the tastiest chocolate chip cookies that you could eat. She had a wonderful sense of humour and a beat for rock n’ roll music! Dorene was a good soul whose smiling face and kind personality will be truly missed.

A service will be held on Friday, October 13th, at 1:00 p.m. at the Wroxeter Cemetery where Dorene will be lovingly placed next to her husband, Harold Stuart Finlay who predeceased her in 1982. A casual gathering for family and friends will follow at the Belmore Community Centre at 2:30 p.m.

Thank you to our family and friends for your love and support during this time. We would also like to thank our local OneCare Personal Support Worker Team, the Huron County Paramedicine Program, the Wingham Hospital Healthcare Team and McBurney Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or the Belmore Community Centre (cheques payable to Howick Township) would be appreciated.
