Obituary of Doris Walker
Peacefully at Wingham & District Hospital on Saturday, June 26th, 2021, Doris (Taylor) Walker of Wingham, passed away at the age of 90.
Devoted wife of the late Ernest “Ernie” Walker who predeceased her on June 2nd, 2006. Cherished sister-in-law of Marlene Taylor of St. Helens. Dear aunt of Larry Miller (Cheryl) of London, Ruth & John Haines of Wingham, Mike Taylor (Karen) of Whitechurch, Lisa Taylor of Wingham and Jeff Taylor of St. Helens. Doris will also be lovingly remembered by Ernie’s family. Predeceased by her parents Chester & Berdie (Ferguson) Taylor, brothers Murray (Mildred), Harold (Maxine) and Donald Taylor, sister Vera (Gordon) Miller and nephew Doug Taylor.
Doris was a long-time member of Wingham United Church and an alto voice in the church choir for more than sixty years. Doris was possessed of an abundance of musical talent and was a gifted piano player. With little or no formal musical training in her background, she played everything by ear and was able to play just about any tune after she had heard it once. In earlier days, Doris was the pianist for the groups ‘Alley Cats' and ‘Country Starlite’ that provided weekend entertainment at the hotels in places like Mildmay and Formosa. As an enthusiastic and active volunteer for many years, Doris enjoyed a busy schedule playing for sing-songs at the Wingham Day Centre and with the group ‘Country Traditions’ providing entertainment for residents of retirement homes in the area. Doris had an outgoing manner and always a cheerful disposition and these qualities earned her many friendships over the years. She will be remembered fondly by those who knew her and for a life well lived.
A private graveside service will be held at the Wingham Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Wingham United Church, One Care or a charity of choice would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy.
