Ivan Dow

Obituary of Ivan Dow

Eighty-five years after coming into this world, the youngest son of Eccles and Wellington Dow, the youngest sibling of the late Ada Taylor, Eva Snell, Nelson and Donald, Ivan Campbell Dow bid his world goodbye on April 14th, 2021. An end to an era. “I never met anyone I didn’t like” Will Rogers said it, Ivan Dow lived it. Ivan leaves behind his loving wife Elly and ten nieces, nephews and their families. A genuine people person! A stranger was a friend to be. Ivan saw and respected the good in people. As so many others the impact of COVID hit hard. In March of 2020 Ivan was hospitalized and waited four months for a long-term care bed. The isolation of visitor restrictions took its toll. And though he would rather have gone home to his van Dow farm on Belfast Road he moved to Huronlea. He took it all in stride, settled right in and never complained. He appreciated the loving attention and nothing but excellent care he received at Huronlea.

A private family graveside will be held in the morning on Saturday, August 21st, 2021 at Wingham Cemetery. Friends and neighbours are welcome to attend Ivan’s farm to further celebrate his life from 1:00-4:00 p.m. Plaids and jeans welcome and bring a lawn chair and maybe a story or two.

To honour Ivan’s memory, his wife Elly and his family kindly ask that you forget flowers and sympathy cards, buy a book of stamps and connect with family and friends that you are blessed to still have with you. Or, for those who wish, Ivan’s favourite charity was Operation Smile Canada.
