Obituary of Elsie McKague

Elsie F. McKague passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 6, 2022, at Braemar Long-Term Care, Wingham in her 97th year.

She will be lovingly remembered by her sons Brian (Adora) of Kitchener and Shawn (Rose) of Wingham. Loving grandmother of Andrew and Mathew McKague of Wingham, Julia (Jonathan) Hoffmann of Waterloo and Scott (Amy) McKague of Innerkip, ON. Great-grandmother of Emmett, Corbin, Malcolm and Everett. Also survived by her nieces Karen Ribey (Rodney), Donna Woolcock (Don), nephews Bill Wall (Bonnie), Rick Wall (Beryl) and their families. Predeceased by her husband Hugh L. McKague (1979), her parents Ernest and Mary Thacker (Seale), her sister and only sibling Beth Wall and brother-in-law Grant Wall.

Elsie was born in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba on March 18, 1926. She enjoyed sharing her many vivid memories of childhood and growing up in a remote area of central Manitoba during the depression of the 1930s. She moved to Teeswater ON in 1943 and, following graduation, worked in the office of Thomson Bros. Creamery where she met Hugh. They were married in 1948 and went on to raise two sons, Brian and Shawn. In 1963 the family moved to Wingham where she became involved in 5 pin bowling, Avon sales and as a Welcome Wagon hostess.

Elsie was a devoted wife and mother and a friend to all who knew her in the Wingham and Teeswater communities. She enjoyed oil painting and especially loved old-time music and dancing. She also enjoyed volunteering with the Wingham Town Hall theatre group and was a member of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian church and the Wingham Legion Auxiliary.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, December 10, 2022 at McBurney Funeral Home, Wingham from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. with interment in Culross-Teeswater Cemetery.
