For years and years and years...until long, long after Dave stayed in our home for a time, Iris and Harold sent us a box of chocolates every Christmas as a show of their gratitude. There was no one among all of Mom and Dad's friends who was as consistent in their kindness, thoughtfulness, and generosity as were Iris and Harold. And how grateful the four of us Pearse kids kids were for that kindness and thoughtfulness and generosity each time we opened that box and tore into those chocolates far too early on Christmas morning, year after year...until we were old enough to reflect - with a gentle shaking of our heads - on just how remarkable it was that Iris and Harold's appreciation, for something my Mom and Dad were so happy to have done for Dave, knew no bounds and was shared with us in such a tangible way each Christmas morning! It was a lesson in giving that has stayed with us all.
And now, thanks to a camping tradition begun by Iris and Harold years ago, we have a 3rd generation Shaw among us at Camp - Breelle. Our gratitude to Iris is as sincere, heartfelt, and profound as are our condolences to the entire Shaw family. Please know that you are in our thoughts and that your entire family is always welcome here - at any time of the year.

We got to know Iris when we delivered meals to Iris in Wingham. What an amazing lady she was. Iris enjoyed when our granddaughter Alayna would come with us for the deliveries. She would mention "where is that little girl" when she was not available to be with us.

Dave, there are likely hundreds of people, mostly women, who are competent keyboarders now because we learned to type from your Mom and Mrs. Cranfield at Adam Scott ( just a few years ago!!) She was an excellent teacher who gave us lifetime skills. My mom made me take typing so I'd have something "to fall back on".... who knew we'd all end up using that skill every day??!! From reading the obituary, it sounds as if your mother lived a very full life with many friends and interests after her retirement. My sympathy to you and your family; may you have lots of cherished memories to bring you comfort.

It has been a long time since I taught you in grade 6 at Central School. I look back at those days with such fond memories. I remember your mom as an active member of the Home & School Association. I remember both your mom and dad when they had the apartment on Clonsilla Ave. In fact I rented that apartment one winter from them for an interim minister at Murray Street Baptist Church when they went south. Harold & Iris Shaw were a great couple!

Even though I only knew her for a short time while working at the Villa, Iris was such a joy and inspiration. Her age did not impact her vibrant and feisty personality in the slightest, nor her impeccable memory. We shared many wonderful conversations and I know she will be greatly missed. As a long time resident of Westview Pt. Rd.,I remember Iris & Harold fondly. When Andy & I moved here
they were the first to invite us for dinner & to welcome us. They were both always dressed to the "9's".
Their home here is only on the third owner since they left & has been loved & enjoyed over the years.

Our whole family known and loved this special lady. I first really got to know her and Harold when I did some housecleaning for them at Turnberry Estates years ago, we always had many great conversations. I loved our chats on the phone and her telling me she loved hugs from Rick! Last month visiting at tim hortons with Betty and Iris was wonderful and the call she made too me later that day was a very memorable conversation :) What a wonderful long life she lived, she will be dearly missed...hugs too you all as Iris spoke very highly of her whole family and was so proud of them all!
