Terry being one of my closest friends for over 30 years, all the Daers have been more like family then friends. I have great memories with Ed on the golf course, Trips to myrtle beach, and annual reminders to get my val tag sticker on time. :) I look back on those times and smile, and wish Terry, Ed and myself could have just one more.
Deepest condolences from all of us to Nancy, Trish , Terry , as well as all family and friends. I know how close you all were and will miss him terribly. So will I.
Love you all

Our thoughts are with you at this time. Unfortunately we are in Grimsby from Friday to Sunday so won’t be able to attend to pay tribute to Ed, one if Wingham’s finest. At a time when the OPP and other large services were struggling to implement a Community Policing model, they only needed to look at Constable Daer who spent his whole career being visible in the Community on and off duty. Many youngsters first met Ed through his famous bike rodeo and admired him on the mound when he was representing Wingham. He could be stern but fair and understood that alternatives other than charging someone may net a better longterm outcome.
It was a privilege to have served some of my career with him

Our condolences to all of the family. Ed was a fine community supporter and a bigger than life part of so many lives. During his days as an officer with Wingham Police Services, he would stop by the radio station early in the morning to share a coffee and sometimes give us a report on overnight weather. He and Alex Skinn, "Mr Alex" were often part of the morning show. And if I wasn't at the station on time, between he and Mr Alex they'd track me down and make sure the station got on the air. We'll hold these memories. The man will be missed. Jim Swan

We were deeply saddened to hear of Ed's passing. Of course our most vivid memories of Ed are from his softball days - Ed striding to the mound, the sun reflecting off the mirrored sunglasses, hiding the eyes of a fierce competitor. But when those glasses came off, those same eyes exuded the twinkle of the fun-loving gentle giant he truly was.
We are grateful to have known Ed - the police officer, the ballplayer, the golfer, but most all the friend.
With deepest sympathy...
John and Trudy Leitch

So sorry for your loss. I remember Eddy as we used to call him was what I would call one tough cop you wouldn't want to be on the wrong side of. He was smart, quick witted, funny, and had a no non sense way of getting you to look at things from a very logical and clear way no matter whether you were in trouble or not. His approach to his job, and who he was is what made our community safer, but also stopped a lot of kids from getting into a huge pile of mayhem when we were younger. He was definitely one of the good guys and Wingham was always better for having him in it. I miss those days, And the people who were around to make my childhood and teen years better for either knowing them, or for who they were and how they served the community. Eddy will be certainly missed, but never forgotten. So sorry for the loss of another great man from Wingham.

I first met Ed when I was at the radio station , there was a charity jail in town and he came to "Arrest " me for " Impersonating a radio announcer" . Ed was always willing to do his part to help out the community and local charities. We got to know each other playing golf at the Wingham Golf Course . I was lucky enough to have quite a few rounds with Ed and it was always a great pleasure and very enjoyable . Please accept my deepest sympathies , Ed was a wonderful man who enjoyed a good joke , was always willing to help out and just made the world a better place. I consider myself very lucky to have konwn him and gotten to spend some time with him.

I have so many memories to keep this wonderful man in my heart forever. I feel so lucky to have had him in my life. The latest and most simple that sticks with me is arriving at their house for homecoming to meet Tric and Tanya. I walked in and there he was...larger than life, white tank top, holding a knife and covered in red juice. He had the biggest smile and said....hey sweet pea, want some strawberries? Such a silly thing....but it was a simple moment between him and I that will stay with me always.
Ed, you were a kind, generous and fair man. You could scare the heck out of us at times, but would follow up a scolding with that "big as your heart smile". You and Nancy should be so proud of the children you raised. I am forever blessed by Tric's friendship and will be there for her as she adjusts to life with you watching from afar. Always wanting your own way, I'm sure you will set things right up there in heaven. See you this weekend. J.
