It was a daily ritual, and Dad will now check the online obituaries and find his name within. Early in the morning of March 23, 2021 Donald James Gaunt (Jim) passed peacefully at Sarnia hospital with Mom, Evelyn (Mathers) his wife of 64 years, by his side. His daughter Janet (Cliff McGuire) will miss him dearly, recognizing he is in a better place, passing with dignity & grace. Missy the cat is lost without him. Dad’s life revolved around our family. Grandchildren will miss his free advice more than they know. Jeff and Jackie McGuire, Calli Elliott (Dale Cundick), Mike McGuire, Rebecca & Brian Benson. His life was filled with love for his great grandchildren, Cole, Logan, Conner, Ashlynn, Aislinn, Dylan, Jimmy and special granddaughter Aubrey.
Survived by his brother Harley Gaunt (Wendy), and brothers and sisters-in-law, Don Ross, Arnold and Ila Mathers, and Sharon Gaunt. Nieces and Nephews were very special to Dad and always in his thoughts. His life was filled with music, and some of his best times were playing guitar with Mom, Cliff, Dwayne and his friends. Dad has friends everywhere and will miss him.
Predeceased by his parents, John and Agnes Gaunt, sister Jean Ross, brother George Gaunt, mother and father-in-law Melville and Janet Mathers and sister-in-law Joyce Gaunt.
At his request, Dad will be cremated, with a private burial in Wingham Cemetery and a celebration of life with music and friends later this summer. He wouldn’t want anyone to be sad, he’s playing his guitar and singing in heaven.
Arrangements have been entrusted to McBurney Funeral Home, Wingham, and donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated in lieu of flowers.
